Trump retweeted anti-Muslim propaganda videos from a British hate group

President Donald Trump spent part of his Wednesday morning retweeting three videos about alleged Islamist violence. One claimed to show a Muslim man destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary; another professed to have captured a “Muslim migrant” beating up a “Dutch boy on crutches,” and a third seemed to show Muslim men pushing a boy off a building.
There were two problems. First, at least one of the videos was fake; reports quickly emerged showing that the perpetrator in the video about the Dutch boy is apparently neither Muslim nor a migrant. The video of teens being pushed from a rooftop is apparently three and a half years old and took place in Egypt, during a spasm of violence following the ouster of then-Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. At least one of the perpetrators was executed for the crime. The third video’s source remains unverified.
The much more disturbing issue is that the videos had all been originally posted by Jayda Fransen, a leader of a far-right British political party called Britain First.
This isn’t the first time Trump hasretweeted a fringe political group. In early 2016, he retweeted (and then deleted) a message from the now-suspended account@WhitegenocideTM, known for espousing openly racist, anti-Semitic, white supremacist views.
The president also has a track record of targetingMuslims. In 2015, he proposed a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” During the 2016 presidential campaign he contemplated creating a database of Muslims in America. After becoming president, he instituted a ban on citizens from seven majority-Muslim nations entering the US. (The ban has been blocked by an array of federal courts.)
It may not be a total surprise, in other words, that Trump was retweeting videos posted by a fringe group known for its Islamophobia. That doesn’t make it any less worrisome.

Trump retweeted a far-right group known for its hatred of Muslims

Britain First was formed in 2011 by a breakaway group of extreme anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim activists who felt the far-right British National Party wasn’t far right enough.
Fransen’s Twitter account is filled with short videos depicting violence purportedly perpetrated by Muslims. Shewas convicted in 2016 of religiously aggravated harassment after she verbally abused a woman wearing a hijab.
Fransen appeared thrilled by the US president’s careful attention to her Twitter account. In all caps she tweetedsmall images of the retweets and alerted her followers to the news. “GOD BLESS YOU TRUMP!” she wrote, “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

Leaders around the world condemned Trump. He doesn’t appear to care.

British and Muslim leaders were quick to condemn Trump’s choice to expand the megaphone of a known Islamophobe. “Britain First is a vile, hate-fuelled organisation whose views should be condemned, not amplified,” tweetedSadiq Khan, mayor of London.
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of Britain’sLabour Party, also tweeted that Trump’s retweets were “abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society.”
In a statement issued from Downing Street on Wednesday, British Prime Minister Theresa May said, “Britain First seeks to divide communities by their use of hateful narratives that peddle lies and stoke tensions. They cause anxiety to law-abiding people.”
“It is wrong for the president to have done this,” she added in the statement.

Trump responded to May’s criticisms Wednesday night, first tweeting at the wrong “Theresa May” — a private account with six followers. He then deleted that tweet but apparently retained the view it was a good idea to feud with one of America’s closest allies, writing that the prime minister should focus “on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!”
May responded again on Thursday morning, this time verbally. "The fact that we work together does not mean that we're afraid to say when we think the United States has got it wrong, and be very clear with them,” May told the pressfrom Jordan, where she is currently traveling on State business.
"And I'm very clear that retweeting from Britain First was the wrong thing to do."
But even after rebuking Trump -— twice -- for spreading the anti-Islamic propaganda, May did not rescind his invitation for a formal state visit, expected in 2018. But some MPs ramped up calls for her to disinvite the American president. London’s mayor, Khan, explicitly said he “would not be welcomed.” Trump’s latest tweet is likely to strengthen their resolve.
The UK is home to more than 3 millionMuslims. The president’s endorsement of a hate group notwithstanding, the message Britain First conveys has failed to find traction in the UK itself. The party has never had a win at the ballot box.
That, at least, is cause for cheer.

Teenager Rescued From S*xual Abuse By Her Uncle In Lagos

Teenager Rescued From S*xual Abuse By Her Uncle In Lagos

The Child Protection Unit of Lagos Ministry of Youth & Social Development has rescued a 14-year-old girl, Favour Ifeanyi from s*xual abuse in the hands of a supposed Uncle.

The incident happened at Shasha, Akowonjo in Alimosho area of Lagos.
Favour was rescued following calls from anonymous persons to the Child Protection Unit’s hotline to inform the government of the illicit acts observed at Millennium Estate, Afonka, Shasha where Favour resides with her relatives.

While narrating her experience after the Ministry’s intervention, Favour said that she had experienced series of s*xual abuse by one Nelson, since accommodation problems made her move into his two-bedroom apartment with her cousin – Mrs. Eze Kelechi in 2015.

She claimed that Nelson abused her s*xually for two years until she got pregnant in June 2017, adding that he also made efforts to abort the pregnancy resulting from his illicit act by persuading her to consume unprescribed drugs.

Favour said after a scan revealed that she was three months pregnant, the matter was subsequently reported to the Police following the suspects refusal to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

However, in response to the call received, the Child Protection Unit has taken custody of the girl for rehabilitation and care pending the conclusion of investigations by Police and the State Government.

Earlier this year, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola called on members of the public to report cases of child abuse in order to prosecute perpetrators and end the menace in the society.

Nigerian Big Boy Buys 2017 Toyota Prado For His Pastor As Birthday Gift

Nigerian Big Boy Buys 2017 Toyota Prado For His Pastor As Birthday Gift

A businessman who has seen the evidence of what real prayers can do in a person’s life, has surprised his pastor with a brand new 2017 Toyota Prado as a birthday gift. Nice one!

Like I said before, a woman built a house for a pastor in the Bible. Pastor is not a person who should spend all his time working to make money like others. Rather, he should be spending time in the presence of God to make life better for others and in turn those people should bless him/her.

Senator Adeyeye wants allowances of all politicians reduced

Senator Adeyeye wants allowances of all politicians reduced

The senator representing Osun Central Senatorial district, Olusola Adeyeye, on Wednesday called for a reduction in allowances of all political office holders in Nigeria, including senators.

The senator threw the red chamber into a rowdy session when he made this remark while speaking on the 2018 budget appropriation.

The budget has faced series of criticisms from the lawmakers since the start of the debate on Tuesday.

Adeyeye said the allowances of all politicians, including senators, must give way to make the budget realisable.

“If we are all going to complain, let’s face it,” he said. “I don’t want deficit budget. If we don’t want it and we want to slash the budget of N8 trillion to N4 trillion, some things must give way including the allowances of all politicians.”

This remark was followed by shouts of ‘it begins with you’ from Senators as they urged Mr. Adeyeye to take the lead in the recommendation.

‘Yes, I agree,’ he replied.

“I’m just saying that there is no gain without pain and we all know it. I agree with you, beginning with me, I agree.

“Here in this place, weeks after weeks, we create new entities that will consume more money at a time when we know the revenue is not increasing. Even this N8 trillion that we are talking about, I bet you, all of us, including myself will go and ask for more things for our constituency, where do we want the money to come from?

“If we are going to face the truth, we must face the truth together.”

Buhari Should State His Role In Mainagate; ex-NBA president, CSOs tell President

Buhari Should State His Role In Mainagate; ex-NBA president, CSOs tell President

Some Civil Society Organisations, as well as a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to state his role in the controversy surrounding the reinstatement of the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.

They added that the revelations that followed the controversial reinstatement had dented the image of Buhari and called for a panel to investigate all issues surrounding Maina.

The former PTFPR boss had said Buhari asked the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), to strike a deal with him (Maina).

Agbakoba, who spoke to Punch on phone, urged the President to break his silence on the issue.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said Maina had dented the President’s image by his claims, wondering why a “common” suspect like the fugitive “cannot be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission unless somebody somewhere at the highest level of government is protecting him.”

He said, “Only the President can break this conundrum; otherwise, my personal belief is that right inside Aso Rock, there is some protection. If not, how can a man go in and out of Nigeria with the ease? How can Maina make allusion to the President asking him to meet with the AGF?

“In fact, what has happened is that the President’s image has been dented. Maina has dented the President’s image by alluding to the fact that the President had contact with him and instructed the AGF to make a deal with him.

“What I expect is for the President to immediately clear the air on what is going on.”

He said the claims by Maina had impugned the integrity of President Buhari’s anti-corruption war, adding that the President would be doing himself a favour by speaking on the issue.

He said, “The whole thing is a mess and it is difficult to know who to believe. It has, in my view, created the biggest dent in the President’s anti-corruption crusade because we have all the agencies quarrelling. We have the Attorney-General of the Federation quarrelling with the Head of Service, and so on.

“It sounds so ridiculously unbelievable and I think the President will be doing himself a big favour to break his silence, particularly as Maina said the President approved the meeting.”

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, and the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, noted that Maina had more confessions to make.

They called on the President to inaugurate a panel of retired judges to investigate the allegations made by Maina.

The SERAP Director, Adetokunbo Mumumi, said based on the allegations by Maina, Buhari should set up an investigative committee that is not controlled by the presidency.

He said, “What Maina has said so far are allegations and counter-allegations. What should happen now is that an independent committee of enquiry consisting of retired judges must investigate the Maina scandal. The President must set up a committee of retired incorruptible judges.

“We don’t want anyone from the presidency or under the control of the President. It is not a question of investigation made up of people in the presidency, the senate and the House of Representatives.”

Also, the CACOL Director, Debo Adeniran, said, “Maina’s confession is not yet a revelation until it is proven. It could be his creative way of exoneration. The way forward is to let us have Maina speak up more. He threatened that he was going to name some names. If he does not give those names, he should be treated as an accomplice who is withholding information from the authorities.

“He claimed that he recovered so much money between the last administration and the present one. He should make public the details of the recovery so that we can see his credibility. The anti-graft agencies must probe Maina further to get the information at his disposal.”

Also a civil society group, Advocates for Peoples Rights and Justice, said Malami’s secret visit to the former boss of the task force on pension reforms in Dubai indicated that he and other officials were complicit.

The Coordinator of the group, Victor Giwa, noted that Buhari might have been misinformed by his officials about the matter, adding that that probably explained why he ordered Maina’s sacking after he heard that the former pension reforms boss had been reinstated.

The activist demanded that Malami and the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Monguno, should clear the air on their reason for the Dubai visit.

“People like the NSA and Malami who visited Maina should clear the air on the position of the President. Also, they might have misrepresented the President and until Buhari speaks, we may never know the truth,” Giwa said.

The National Coordinator, Advocates for Good Governance, Macdonald Akhirome, said Nigerians would continue to hold the government accountable for its action on the issue.

He admonished Buhari to tell Nigerians the truth about Maina’s reinstatement, noting that his silence on the matter “speaks volumes about certain things that may not be understood at the moment.”

Akhirome said, “Our take is that the fact speaks for itself, it is glaring before the people, but one would expect that the government would take responsibility for its inaction and action.”

Maina, who is wanted by the EFCC, in a video sent to Channels Television, claimed that the President gave Malami the nod to “go and sit down with Maina.”

The former pension reforms boss had claimed that he had not been taken to any court of law, noting that he had sued security agencies and had “four court judgments.”

Also, the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, had said, in a leaked memo dated October 23, that Buhari was aware of the reinstatement of Maina, noting that she warned the President against it.

In the memo, Oyo-Ita had said her warning was based on the implications that such reinstatement would have on the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government.

‘Direct your enquiries to AGF’ When contacted, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said all enquiries relating to Maina should be directed to the Attorney-General of the Federation.

“Everything on Maina should be directed to the AGF,” Adesina said.

But the AGF neither answered Punch’s calls nor responded to a text sent to his mobile phone.

4 Interesting Ways To Earn Respect In The Workplace

4 Interesting Ways To Earn Respect In The Workplace

Earning the respect of your colleagues in the workplace can be challenging, however, there are some helpful ways to do so effectively without breaking a sweat.

Jumia Travel shares 4 ways to earn respect in the workplace.

Communicate Well
Many times, the disrespect we get in the workplace is due to improper communication or miscommunication. Try to make a conscious effort to listen to and understand those that you work with, as well as communicate your ideas and point of view clearly to them. Improving your communication habits in the workplace is an effective way to secure respect as it will help boost your connection with your colleagues and subordinates, as well as help you reap the returns of cooperation and morale.

Be Organized
If you are unable to organize yourself in the workplace, you’ll end up painting a picture of ‘bumbling incompetence’ to your colleagues. As a result, earning the respect of your colleagues and surbordinates becomes more of a herculean task for you because it is hard to respect someone who doesn’t seem to know what he/she is doing, where he/she is going and how to get there. You should thus put in more effort into developing a vision and plan/schedule that will guide your activities and keep you organized in the workplace.

Trust Your Team
There is nothing worse than a ‘micromanager’, someone who looks over everyone’s shoulder and hardly gives those he/she is working with space to do their work or express themselves in the workplace, trying to control every detail of everyone’s work. It is important to give your colleagues some breathing space to do their work. Though you have an opinion on your colleague’s work it must not always be expressed as long the overall work is being adequately done. The best way to earn the respect of your team or colleagues is to adopt a less controlling approach when relating with them in the workplace.

Show Respect
Respect, they say, is reciprocal. If you want respect, then they best way to get it is to first give respect. Respect is an earned trait and once you show respect to your team, they’ll be more likely to return the sentiment.

Woman Held Captive; R*ped, Tortured For 10 Years

Woman Held Captive; R*ped, Tortured For 10 Years

A woman has been freed from a dungeon where she was kept for as much as 10 years by a man who had previously served time for kidnap.

The 29-year-old woman was r*ped, tortured and forced to give birth to two of his children.

Aloisio Francesco Rosario Giordano, 52, was taken into custody in Italy over the weekend and being held on kidnapping charges – the second time he’s been held on such charges.
His first victim also fell pregnant twice, but he aborted the baby himself, first by kicking her in the stomach and the 2nd time using a scalpel and a spoon that police said he also used to sodomise her.

He is said to have put his wife’s carer into the dungeon – a basement under a shed at his home in Gizzeria, southern Italy – soon after his wife died.

She was chained to a metal bar next to her ‘bed’ in the rat-infested room where there was no running water or electricity.

She was beaten and r*ped repeatedly and is now the mother of a nine-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.

Both children also faced being beaten if they didn’t watch him attacking their mother.

Some of her injuries were so bad that Giordano is said to have tried to patch them up himself, using fishing wire.

They were made to sleep on cardboard for beds and all they had for a toilet was a plastic bucket that was put under a wooden chair.

Police were alerted to the woman’s plight when they saw her son in the back of Giordano’s car when he was pulled over because of the condition of his car.

He was said to be dirty, malnourished; so they asked to see the boy’s home and speak to his mother.

They found the woman clutching her three-year-old daughter and an investigation was launched, uncovering the horrific conditions she was kept in.

She was taken to a secret location after telling police that she had been kept away from the outside world for a decade and hadn’t washed for a year.

Giordano was taken into custody for aggravated s*xual abuse and mistreatment.

He was jailed for five years in 1995 for kidnapping, raping and torturing another woman called Maria Rosa, 23, and was released for good behaviour in 1999.

According to Daily Mail, he went home to his wife, who was terminally ill and being cared for by his 19-year-old victim, a Romanian woman who is not being identified.

It was when his wife died that he offered to help his second victim by giving her a place to stay.

"Nigerians Will See How Popular President Buhari Is In 2019"

"Nigerians Will See How Popular President Buhari Is In 2019"

Alhaji Nasiru Haladu Danu, Dan Amana Dutse of the Dutse Emirate in Jigawa State is the Chairman Non-NWC members of the ruling APC. A staunch loyalist of President Buhari, he spoke with Temidayo Akinsuyi of Independent on the efforts by the president to deliver on his campaign promises and the talks about the 2019 presidential election. Excerpts:

The president based his administration on tackling insecurity, corruption and revamping the economy. How do you think he has fared in these three areas?
On security, I will score the president 75 percent. I will also give him 70 percent on the management of the economy. I am sure that by June 2018, we will be talking by 80 percent. On the fight against corruption, I will score him 75 percent.

These are excellent grades, what are your reasons for scoring the president so high?
Number one is the fight against corruption. Two years ago in this country, corruption in the corporate world and among government officials is so brazen and done with impunity. It is like entering your office in the morning and you see corruption sitting on the table. But right now under the Buhari administration, it has run under the table. In some offices where you have rugs, it has run under those rugs. Some people owing to this administration’s zero tolerance for corruption have even locked it in the safe. So, we hope that in the next one year, we will achieve 80 to 90 percent success in the fight against corruption. I don’t believe in propaganda, I am a realist and that is why I said we have achieved 75 percent success. By the first quarter of next year, I believe we should be talking about 80 to 90 percent. Not only that, we have seen what the anti-corruption agencies have been able to do when it comes to the issue of prosecution. So far, so good, the cooperation from the judiciary is coming but when you look at the most recent cases of corruption, especially the ones involving Sambo Dasuki and Diezani Alison-Madueke, I think the federal government is doing very well in handling these cases. Also, if you look at what the EFCC has been able to recover so far, I believe it is commendable and I believe the president has done very well in the fight against corruption.

How popular is President Buhari now compared to 2015. Do you think his popularity has waned or he has gained more supporters?
I don’t think President Buhari has issues with popularity. As a chieftain of the party, our main focus is to see how he can deliver on the promises he made to Nigerians during the electioneering campaign in 2015. When the election comes in 2019, that is when you will know how popular the president is. I don’t believe in social media popularity, I like facing reality. If he decides to run in 2019, we will know whether he still popular among Nigerians or not. But I think he is getting more support all over the country. He has demonstrated high level of capacity and he has done very well.

Sale of Nigerians In Libya, A Slap On Our Face – Senate

Sale of Nigerians In Libya, A Slap On Our Face – Senate

The Senate has begun the investigation of the alleged sale of African migrants “mostly Nigerians” as slaves in Libya, which it described as a slap on the face of Nigeria.

The probe was based on a motion moved by Senator Baba Kaka Garbai at the plenary on Wednesday, entitled, ‘Urgent Need to Protect Nigerian Citizens from the Libya Slavery Auction.’

Senate president Bukola Saraki said there was the need for Nigeria to do more to protect its citizens.

He said, “As a country, truly, it is a slap on the face of all of us if Nigerians can be treated in this manner. Like somebody said, Ivory Coast that is not as big as us is taking action to see how they can bring their own citizens back. We need to be doing similar things.”

The lawmakers unanimously granted prayers of the motion, including to “condemn in totality the current depravity and sheer animalism being exhibited by these Libyans selling fellow Africans as slaves.”

They also urged the Federal Government to urgently investigate how many Nigerians were affected by the slave sales.

The lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to urgently commence the process of repatriation and rehabilitation of Nigerian citizens “caught up in these despicable treatment and human rights abuses.”

I won’t be surprised if majority of dead migrants are Nigerians – President Buhari

I won’t be surprised if majority of dead migrants are Nigerians – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that information available to him shows that only three of the 26 migrants who died in the Mediterranean and were buried in Italy recently were Nigerians.

He, however, said he would not be surprised if a majority of the deceased were Nigerians.

Buhari said this during a meeting he had with members of the Nigerian community in Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday evening in Abidjan.

The President is in the country for the 5th European Union/African Union Summit.

He promised that his administration will do all within its powers to make the country more conducive in order to discourage youths from embarking on risky trips out of the country for greener pasture.

He said efforts would be made to ensure that there will be less Nigerians daring the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea and getting perished.

Buhari said, “It was announced that 26 Nigerians died but before they could proved that they were all Nigerians, they were buried.

“But the evidence I got from my Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs now is that only three were identified as Nigerians. But I won’t be surprised if the majority of them were really Nigerians.

“For people to cross the Sahara Desert to go into shanty boats across the Mediterranean Sea, I think we will try and keep them at home.

“But for anyone who dared the desert and the Mediterranean without document to prove that he/she is a Nigerian, there is nothing we can do, absolutely nothing.”
