Mother blasts Brooklyn school officials after daughter, 12, was sexually assaulted on campus twice in one week

The mother of a 12-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted twice in one week by a group of boys at her Brooklyn charter school slammed education officials Thursday for failing to protect her daughter from harm.
“I feel like my daughter is scarred for the rest of her life,” Nicole Welcome, 29, said outside Brooklyn Family Court.
“It’s disgusting for a parent to learn her daughter was almost raped inside a school building,” she added.

The NYPD arrested four boys — ages 12 to 14 — for the two attacks that occurred on Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 at the Ocean Hill Collegiate Charter School on Herkimer St. in Brownsville.
The boys attend Mott Hall No. 4 Middle School, which is located in the same building. The victim has transferred to a different school.
Welcome had gone to the courthouse to attend a hearing for one of the youths charged in the attack.
But the city Law Department, which prosecutes juvenile crimes, has not yet filed legal papers.
The mom also complained that only after the second attack — which happened in a basement stairwell and was reported to school officials by a custodian — did the principal learn of the earlier attack from one of the alleged perpetrators. Video footage was found of both incidents.
