In August this year San
Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made headlines as he made
the decision to no longer show his pride for a flag that represents a
country that continues to mistreat African Americans.
He received tons of
support from other athletes both inside and outside of football.
However, he also received tons of backlash from many others. The latest
person to criticize his protest is Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader
Ginsberg.
According to the Huffington Post, Ginsberg sat down with Katie Couric for Yahoo, to promote her new book.
When asked about her thoughts on Kaepernick’s protest, the
83-year-old responded, “I think it’s really dumb. Would I arrest them
for doing it? No. It’s dumb and disrespectful.”
Although she doesn’t agree with the protest, she does realize those who participate are acting well within their rights.
When it comes to those burning the flag she said, “If they want to be
stupid, there’s no law that should be preventive. If they want to be
arrogant, there’s no law that prevents that. What I would do is strongly
take issue with the point of view that they are expressing when they do
that.”
