It sounds like Donald Trump wants to build a wall around the ballot box.
Trump took aim once again at Americans' trust in democracy on Friday
with an unsubstantiated claim that border patrol agents were being
forced to admit undocumented immigrants "so they can vote in the
election."
The wild claim came as he accepted the endorsement of the National
Border Patrol Council at Trump Tower in Midtown, and neither Trump nor
the union offered any evidence to back it up.
The conspiratorial idea would be almost impossible to execute in
reality, given that even if undocumented immigrants make it into the
U.S. they'd still need to prove residency to register to vote.
The comment marries two of Trump's favorite hobbies: Fear-mongering
about immigrants and conspiratorial attacks against the democratic
system. Trump has repeatedly claimed
if he loses that the election might be "rigged" against him, without
any evidence that might happen or explanation of how it could.
