A school bus driver, Adekunbi Samuel, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja high court for armed robbery and attempted r*pe. The driver, who works with a private school in Lekki area of Lagos, was arraigned before Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya on a two-count charge.
He pleaded not guilty.
State prosecutor, Mr A.S Salau, told the court that defendant has been in the business for a long time and presented two victims as witnesses to testify in the matter.
Led in evidence by Salau, the first witness Miss Elizabeth, a school teacher, who was robbed and was almost r*ped by the defendant, said she was on her way to work when at Ojodu Berger bus stop, a bus pulled up beside her and was calling Victoria Island.
“When I entered the bus, the driver brought out a knife and gun and told me to bring out my valuables which included my phone, laptop and the sum of N10,000 after which he tried to r*pe me but didn’t succeed”.
She said he kicked her out of the bus at Secretariat bus stop, along Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
After the incident, she said herself and her brother traced the bus and they got the number plate which was given to the police station at Ojodu Berger.
The second witness, Mercy Oselade, in her testimony said the incident happened on October 15, 2014 when she was going to work.
Mercy said the defendant allegedly robbed her of her phone, a Samsung galaxy and N10,000 before he told her to jump down from the bus.
Afterwards, she reported to Alausa police station.
The prosecutor said the defendant was traced to the school where he works in Lekki phase 1.
“The driver was found and items which he used to rob with, like knives and a gun were recovered from under the driver’s seat. There were other stolen items which were also recovered from the vehicle. After that, he was taken to the police station where he made his statement,” he said.
