CBN governor, Emefiele’s wife reported kidnapped

Mrs. Margaret Emefiele, the wife of the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been kidnapped by gunmen, according toSaharaReporters.

The online news platform said it gathered from a source close to the CBN governor that she was abducted along the Benin-Agbor Road on Thrusday and that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom.

The AKNMEDIA has yet to verify the report.

Officials of the CBN were not immediately available for comment and the CBN governor has yet to comment on the report

No room for Arda Turan in new-look Turkey squad

Burqa ban: Bulgaria outlaws face-covering clothes in public places

Bulgaria’s parliament has passed legislation that effectively bans burqas – veils which fully cover the face, worn by Muslim women in public in a bid to step up security in the country following a series of terrorist attacks in Europe.

The law, put forward by Bulgaria’s nationalist Patriotic Front coalition and approved on Friday by the unicameral National Assembly, prohibits “wearing in public clothing that partially or completely covers the face,” AFP reported.

Any type of such clothing may not be worn in government offices, educational and cultural institutions, and places of public recreation, except for health or professional reasons.

ANGELINA JOLIE, BRAD PITT SETTLEMENT NEGOTIATIONS FULL STEAM AHEAD

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been in the throes of settlement negotiations almost from the start ... but it got rocky early on when Brad pulled the plug ... sources familiar with the case tell TMZ.

Our sources say both sides wanted a quick end to what could become a contentious divorce. Jolie set the stage by asking for sole physical custody after Brad lunged and made contact with 15-year-old Maddox on a private jet.

We're told when TMZ broke the story about theincident in the air, Brad felt Angelina's people leaked the story and said he was done negotiating. But our sources say shortly thereafter, negotiations resumed. 

We're told there are 4 elements to the settlement discussions:

-- Custody and visitation

-- Temporary support for Angelina and the kids 

-- Permanent financial support

-- Property split 

We're told the first 2 items are well on their way to resolution, with one big hitch. TMZ broke the story ... the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the jet incident, and any settlement must conform to the eventual DCFS recommendations.

Our sources say the 3rd and 4th elements have not been resolved.

IGP CONSTITUTES WHITE PAPER REVIEW AND IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTTEE ON REPORTS BY AUDIT FIRMS

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni, on 29thSeptember, 2016 received special audit reports on Nigeria Police Investments companies and subsidiaries at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Abuja. The IGP while receiving the reports from Nebot Williams & Co. and Gbenga Abimbola (GA) & Co. both auditing firms, commended the firms for carrying out their mandate within global best practices and ethics of the profession. He said he and his management team were looking forward to constructive recommendations that if implemented will help in repositioning the subsidiaries for effectiveness, optimal services and benefit to men and officers of Nigeria Police Force.

2. Consequent upon this, the IGP constituted a white paper review and implementation committee that will co-ordinate the administration of these recommendations in close liaison with auditing firms.
3. The auditors, Nebot Williams and Gbenga Abimbola both principal partners in their various firms, while submitting their reports, intimated the IGP that their task, though arduous, had been completed with rapt attention paid to all the details availed them by management of the companies audited. The auditors further informed the IGP that they had carried out a critical financial appraisal of these companies and have come up with invaluable recommendations that if implemented, will help in repositioning them to conform with international best practices.

Photo: Two men from Niger caught in Bangkok using stolen ATM cards from Nigeria

Police in Bangkok on Tuesday, September 27th, arrested two men reportedly from Niger, Laouari Hassane Babale and Awaisou Ibrahim, who were in possession of 215 ATM cards issued by Nigerian banks and Bt34,200 cash, Police Economic Crime Suppression Division Deputy Commanded Pol Colonel Papatdech Ketpan, said on Thursday in a press conference.

They were nabbed using the stolen cards from Nigeria to get cash out of ATMs in the Nana area of Sukhumvit, following a tip off from Kasikorn Bank that "Nigerians were using Nigerian cards" in the Nana area of Sukhmvit.

Police initially caught Babale, 38, at a Kasikorn ATM in Soi 3. He had 18 ATM cards in his possession. The police raided a hotel room in the area where his accomplice Ibrahim, also 38, was caught with 199 ATM cards and 34, 200 baht in cash. The pair admitted the charges and said they had stolen the ATM cards belonging to others in Nigeria to get cash in Thailand.They were detained and will face prosecution.

15 Nigerians on trial in Dubai for robbery worth millions in different currencies

Three Nigerians men and a woman, together with eleven other accomplices currently on the run, were charged in the Court of First Instance on Thursday, September 29th, with attacking two Pakistani men and robbing them of millions in different currencies, belonging to their employer.
The 11 others on the run, including another woman, are being accused in the same case of possessing the stolen money.  The defendants, all Nigerians are currently in detention.

The main accused, a 31-year-old Nigerian worker, was not present in court to face the charges. The others, of ages ranging between 26 and 41 and among them are two businessmen and two managers, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Those, who are accused of possession of the stolen money, claimed before the panel of judges they were doing business with the other accused and were not aware the money was stolen.

According to Khaleej Times,  a 34-year-old Afghani sales executive said that his sponsor gave him while in Afghanistan large amounts of money on May 9 to bring to Dubai.

"I traveled with 4.8 million Saudi Riyals, Dh312,000, QR45,600, KD49,779, and Rs1.5 million. My flight landed at around 10:00pm. Two men, who also work for my sponsor, were waiting for me at Terminal 2 of the Dubai International Airport. They took the cash which was kept in a suitcase and a bag," he said.
The two other men went to a money exchange office in Iyal Nasser, Naif. But few minutes later, the sales executive learnt they lost the money after they were attacked and robbed.

A Pakistani accountant, 26, said that his sponsor wanted the amounts of money to be converted into dirhams.

"We were outside the money exchange office in Freej -al- Murar at around 11 pm when two African men- one of them carrying a cleaver  attacked us and snatched the bag and suitcase of money from us. Two other Africans were watching the place and seemed ready to step in to assist the other thieves. We reported the robbery to the police," the accountant told the prosecutor.

On May 17, they were summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department where he identified two of the thieves. The police tracked the thieves through the CCTV cameras of a shop where the robbery took place.

"They were caught on surveillance cameras fleeing the scene. We issued a circular on their descriptions and the stolen cash," a police lieutenant said.

Two of them were arrested in Ajman. The hearing has been adjourned to November 10.

Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on Wednesday, spoke about racial issues in America and the continual reports of black people killed by police.
In her novel Americanah, her protagonist, Ifemelu, starts a blog about race in America from her perspective as a Nigerian immigrant. 
The blog, called “Raceteenth or Various Observations About American Blacks (Those Formerly Known as Negroes) by a Non-­American Black," is funny as well as insightful.

"The blog in Americanah—I wanted it to be funny. I wanted to poke fun, because I think many of the ways race manifests itself in this country are actually quite funny so I hoped that people would laugh," Adichie said at the Washington Ideas Forum, an event produced by The Aspen Institute and The Atlantic.

Her interviewer, Mary Louise Kelly, a contributing editor at The Atlantic, asked what Ifemelu might say about racial issues in America today.

"I think what’s going on now just doesn’t give me room for humor," Adichie said. "I think that I’m so emotionally exhausted by the murders that I don’t think I could find any space to wrap humor around what’s been happening in the past one year, two years."

"It’s not just that you shoot a man who’s unarmed, it’s that you handcuff him when he’s clearly dying," she said. "There’s something about it that’s so unforgivably inhumane and to think that his race is part of the reason ... I really do think that one of the terrible things about racism in this country, is there’s a sense that blackness isn’t really seen as fully human in many quarters. I think that’s why these things happen. I think that’s why a man who is dying is handcuffed, that’s why a boy who is dead is left on the street for hours. It makes me wonder: What’s happened to that part of us that is good?"

An earlier part of Adichie and Kelly’s conversation focused on the power of storytelling to humanize, so Kelly asked, "Do you think you’ll be able to find a way to write about that?

"Many times I 've wanted to and I 've started," Adichie said. "But I almost always feel that language has failed me. So I don't know."

The University of Texas at San Antonio will be offering a course based on Queen Bey’s Lemonade visual album titled “Black Women, Beyoncé, and Popular Culture.” 

According to the course syllabus, the purpose of the class is to “explore the theoretical, historical, and literary frameworks of black feminism.” *Takes notes.

The course will be taught by Dr. Kinitra Brooks who writes in her syllabus that “you do not have to be a member of the Beyhive” asking that her students are “willing to be uncomfortable and have your thoughts and ideas challenged–and then to work, read, write your way through that uncomfortably in order to become a stronger critical thinker.” She continues.

The course will be using Lemonade as a starting point to examine the sociocultural issues that are most prominent in black womanhood through black feminist theory , literature, music and film.
