A cop from Georgia has been
fired and another has resigned after their racist Facebook messages to
each other were put on blast! Brant Gaither and Jeremy Owens served on a
traffic unit for the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department and their
messages showed that these men targeted black drivers in their area!
According to Rawstory.com,
Gaither and Owens referred to black drivers in racial slurs with Owens
writing, “It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Might not get too many niggs.”
The two even mocked Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech.
“I have a dream.
That one day my people will not act like animals,”
Gaither posted, to which Owens replied, “Lol. That’ll never happen.” The
Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that they even made sexist jokes
and mocked domestic violence victims.
The messages were discovered when another deputy logged onto a
computer that was previously issued to Owens. He showed them to Sheriff
Stephen Jessup who said they made him “want to throw up.” “
There is no
joke about something like that period,” Jessup told the AJC. “It’s
total racism.”
Since the incident, Gaither has been fired and shortly thereafter, Owens resigned and is now working as an officer in Darien.
