Nigeria police, Imo State command on Thursday reunited a 10-month-old baby, Tochukwu Peter, who was stolen and sold for N650,000, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Okechukwu Peter.
Three suspects – Ogechi Chukwuocha, 42; Calista Igwe, 38; and Chimezie, 32 – were also paraded for their roles in the abduction of the little baby.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the child was stolen from his mother, Udoka Peter, on June 15, 2017, in Ogbaku, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson said the prime suspect, one Favour Nwekem, who allegedly stole the baby, was still at large, adding that the operatives of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department raided the syndicate’s den in Orlu on June 20 and rescued the child unhurt.
Enwerem said, “The case was reported on June 15; we rescued the stolen baby on June 20.”
The PPRO said one Ogechi Chukwuocha bought the child for N650,000, adding that Chukwuocha had confessed to the crime.
The father of the baby said the stealing of his son brought trauma to his household. He’s however happy that their son is back home.
