7-month Old Baby Stolen From Her Parents; Sold 3 Times, Found 114 Days After

Many call her a miracle baby. If not true, what else can be used to describe seven-month-old Chinwendu Ekiri, who was abducted from her parents’ home in Rivers State by a neighhour and found after 114 days later.

How did it happen?

Chinwendu’s parents, Emeka and Rejoice Ekiri, alleged that their daughter was abducted by Innocent Ndubuisi, their neighbour. According to them, after abducting the girl, Ndubuisi vanished into thin air, plunging mother and father into unimaginable agony.

Ndubuisi, a father of three, was alleged to have stolen Chinwendu on December 28, 2017, just weeks after moving into the compound. Emeka said that he and his wife were short of words on how to express their feelings on the rescue of Chinwendu.

Emeka said that only God knew what Chinwendu had gone through in the hands of those, who abducted and repeatedly sold her four months ago. Emeka said: “My daughter was sold and resold for different prices ranging from, N450,000, N600,000 and N850,000.

According to New Telegraph, the case of my missing daughter was reported to the Department of State Service (DSS) after several efforts of the Nigeria Police to find her, failed.” Emeka further said: “According to the DSS operatives, Ndubuisi, who stole her, contacted one Shadrach.

“This Shadrach got in touch with a woman in Onuimo, Imo State. She paid Ndubuisi N450,000. While sealing the deal with Shadrach and the woman, Ndubuisi equally threw in his handset. It was through that handset that DSS operatives were able to arrest Shadrach. Shadrach took the operatives to the woman, who then took them to Aba, where she had already sold Chinwendu to another woman called Esther for N600,000.”

Emeka said that when Esther was arrested at Elele, in Port Harcourt, she too had also sold Chinwendu to another woman in Ogoja, Cross Rivers State for N850,000. Emeka enthused: “The most important thing is that my daughter is back and unharmed.

“I’m grateful to God and the DSS operatives, who worked hard in finding and rescuing my daughter. We first reported the matter to the police, but they were busy extorting us, without putting efforts in finding Chinwendu. It was operatives of DSS that directed us to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). The operatives told us that it was an issue of human trafficking. Ndubuisi is still on the run. I know that God will bring him to justice”

Popular SAN Nwobike Sentenced To Jail In Lagos

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Nwobike has been convicted of 12 counts bordering of perversion of the course of justice by the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

Justice Raliat Adebiyi, who pronounced the verdict on Monday morning, said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission proved beyond reasonable doubts that the SAN was in constant communication with court officials to influence the assignment of his cases to his preferred judges.

The Punch reports that the prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, said the offence carries a prison term of two years, but the defence counsel, Mr. Wale Akoni (SAN), said sentence is at the judge’s discretion, and pleaded with Justice Adebiyi to temper justice with mercy.

The judge stood the case down, rose and went into her chambers.

Court Orders Interim Forfeiture Of Patience Jonathan’s Houses In Abuja

A Federal High Court in Abuja today (Monday) ordered an interim forfeiture of two properties linked to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

The properties are at Plot No. 1960, Cadastral Zone A05, Maitama District, and Plot No. 1350, Cadastral Zone A00, both in Abuja.

The properties were said to be held in the name of Ariwabai Aruera Reachout Foundation, which Mrs. Jonathan was said to be one of its “trustees”.

The order, according to Punch, came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had in an ex parte application filed in September last year asked for an interim forfeiture of the properties, which it claimed were subjects of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Ruling on the commission’s ex parte application on Monday, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba dismissed Mrs. Jonathan’s objection to the application for lacking in merit.

The court then ordered the interim forfeiture which he however ruled must only last for 45 days.
He ruled that within the 45 days, EFCC must conclude its investigations and charge the suspects being investigated in respect of the alleged crimes linked to properties.

He however added that the EFCC was at liberty to file an application for the extension of the life span of the order before the expiration of the initial 45 days.

He also ordered that if for any reason EFCC’s officials needed to access the properties within the period of interim forfeiture, they must do so with the respondents in attendance.

He ordered that the inventory of the fixtures in the properties and a report to that effect must be submitted to the court.

Jubilation As Notorious Kidnapper, Papa G Is Finally Arrested At Student’s Hostel

Operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended a suspected notorious kidnapper and armed robber, Godwin Onyebuchi, also known as Papa G, in his hideout in a polytechnic hostel in Owerri, the state capital.

The alleged serial killer’s arrest reportedly made residents of Owerri to jubilate, including police officers who gathered to have a glimpse of him, as the suspect, who had escaped arrests, had been on the wanted list of the police for a long time.

A police source disclosed that Onyebuchi was nabbed on Saturday at Solo Lodge hostel located around Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, which had served as his hiding place after deadly operations.

The source said; “In order to beat police investigation, he uses that hostel as a hiding place after deadly operations. He pretends to be a student. He knew police were tracking him.

“So, he does not have a phone. He borrows phones to make calls if there were needs for telephone conversation.”

It was gathered by Southern City News that the suspect was responsible for the kidnapping of a popular gospel singer, Chinedu Nwadike, and one Rev. Columba Okereke in August 2017.

“In August, 2017, a gang of armed robbers and kidnappers led by Godwin Onyebuchi, who operates between Imo and Abia states, abducted a popular gospel singer, Chinedu Nwadike, and Rev. Columba Okereke.

“The gang collected the Lexus 350 model car of one of their victims while a ransom of N5m was paid. The hoodlums equally collected other valuables from the victims.

“Acting on intelligence, the operatives of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command, led by their commander, SP Victor Godfrey, swooped on him at his hideout, Solo Lodge hostel, Nekede, on Saturday and arrested him. On sighting the F-SARS operatives, he jumped down from the three-storey building and broke one of his legs,” the source further disclosed.

It was gathered further that the suspect was rushed to police clinic, Amakaohia, Owerri, where he was receiving medical attention. The two kidnap victims and the suspect’s gang members in the police detention had identified him as the ring leader.

Confirming the arrest, the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said a robust onslaught against criminals and their hideout was ongoing in the state.

“The suspect has been on the wanted list of the command. Acting on intelligence, we have to arrest him. He will be ready to answer for all his atrocities. As a command, we will continue to ensure that Imo people enjoy their sleeps,” the state CP said.

How To Enjoy God’s Rich Blessings As A Child Of God

Talking about good habits that will help you prosper legitimately sounds difficult to some people, yet James urges people to get closer to God. “Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts…”

Below are daily steps that will help you;

By not living in sin, practicing humility, and transforming our thoughts with Scripture; we can have have access to God’s rich blessings.

1. Always Give thanks.
Gratitude opens our eyes to all that God is doing around us. It helps us cultivate a heart that is satisfied and trusts God rather than complaining about our circumstances and groaning against Him.

Jesus continually gave thanks to God. Before Jesus fed over 5,000 with 2 fish and 5 loaves, he “took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish,” John 6:11. Later, John records that, just before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he “looked up and said, ‘Father, I thank you that you have heard me,’” John 11:41. Even on the night Jesus was arrested, he still gave God thanks. 1 Corinthians 11:23-24 says that “the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’”

2. Practice humility.
Biblical humility is giving up our own selfish and vain desires so we can do the will of God. Jesus humbled himself to obey the Father, even though he was the Son of God.

Philippians 2:5-8 says: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!”

3. Study the Word.
We can’t become like Christ if we don’t know him. Jesus is revealed in the Scriptures, both in the Old and New Testaments. But the Bible isn’t just a book to learn about God. The Bible is alive and active, and God uses our time reading it to convict us, to guide us, to point us to truth, to answer prayer and to transform our thinking.

Paul knew the value of studying the Bible and encouraged Timothy, his young charge, to continue studying the Scriptures which he’d done since his youth. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” 2 Timothy 3:16.

4. Serve others.
One of the ways we can grow more like Christ is to look for ways to serve others. We should ask God to help us to see people as he sees them, see their need, and then be willing to stop and serve them.

Jesus modeled this service just before going to the cross. In the upper room, Jesus got up from the table, wrapped a towel around his waist, poured water into a bowl and washed his disciples’ feet. How could Jesus, who was Lord and Master, stoop to wash their feet? Jesus was teaching by example. “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you,” John 13:14-15.

5. Prioritize prayer.
Jesus prayed often, and he made it a priority to get away by himself for regular prayer. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed,” Luke 5:16. He spent whole nights in prayer and prayed deeply before and after crucial events. Before calling the 12 apostles, Jesus spent the night in prayer. Before Jesus was arrested, tried, and crucified, he spent time in intense prayer. And after feeding the 5,000, Jesus went up to a mountain alone to pray.

Jesus’ prayer life must have caught his apostles’ attention because the only thing they ever asked Jesus to teach them was how to pray. “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray,” Luke 11:1. Jesus never let busyness or pressing need keep him from prayer, an example for us if we want to become like him.

6. Die to self.
If we want to grow more like Christ, we need to die daily to ourselves – our comfort, agenda, ambitions, cravings, and sin. The call to follow Christ is the call to lay down our lives and take up the cross. “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me,” Galatians 2:20.

It’s a daily death. Each time we allow God to interrupt our plans or turn from a temptation or obey God even when it costs, we die to self. “Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it,’” Luke 9:23-24.

7. Love one another.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another,” John 13:34. Believers are told to “be devoted to brotherly love,” Romans 12:10.

Loving others helps us become more like Christ as we learn what real love is and how to love. We learn to put others’ needs before our own, to forgive an offense, to encourage rather than envy, and to compassionately bear each other’s burdens. “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us,” Ephesians 5:1-2.

Living right makes you a candidate for God’s rich blessings.

Will Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Ever Be Delivered?

Despite the Federal Government’s approval of additional N64.1 billion for new features in the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the question many are asking is: will the road ever be delivered?

The Nation’s Adeyinka Aderibigbe reports.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has, more than any other highway, gained the attention of Nigerians and successive governments. Eighteen years on, the road has featured on the to-do-list of the Federal Government which continues to pump money into it to make it safe for road users.

Fixing the road, which is gateway from Lagos to other parts of the country, is becoming expensive.

Before Messrs Julius Berger Plc and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Plc were hired by the Government in 2013, the 127.6-kilometre highway was at best a deathtrap. The contracts were awarded for N167 billion with a completion date of 2017.

The two firms were hired following the failure of Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited (BHSL) to fulfill the agreements it reached with the government on the project. The N91 billion contract awarded to BHSL was terminated on November 19, 2012.

If the concessionary agreement the Federal Government signed with BHSL in 2009, had worked out, the company would have managed the highway for 25 years under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Bi-Courtney had a mandate to reconstruct and expand the expressway and recoup its investment through tolling and advertisement rights.

The government said the action was taken because of the failure of Bi-Courtney.

Since Julius Berger and RCC were mobilised by the former administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the contractors have been on and off the sections allocated to them, a development that made last year’s delivery date impossible.

But the approval of additional N64.1 billion by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its weekly meeting week, the Muhammadu Buhari government seems poised to complete the reconstruction of the Segment ‘A’ of the highway. The section from Lagos to Sagamu Interchange was initially awarded to Julius Berger for 70 billion.

An analyst Deinde Ola, captured the unending rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts of successive governments on the road thus; “the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is like a road to eternity, it never ends.”

Announcing the latest development, the Minister of Power, Works & Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said the new funds would address the changing nature of the road.

According to the minister, the increased human activity on the corridor, especially the Lagos-Sagamu segment, occasioned by the mushrooming of religious institutions, factories, universities and farm settlements, informed the need to change the inherited design. He said the inherited design has become obsolete.

The new approval, Fashola explained, is designed to modify the bitumen for the road in order to withstand pressure from heavy duty vehicles plying the road and to cover the construction of pedestrian bridges and toll plazas.

He said: “The inherited design didn’t provide for all these at all. The second section – the 80-kilometre Sagamu-Ibadan segment – which is under Reynold Construction Company (RCC) is not captured in the variation. It may incorporate similar works, including drainage works, when the ministry completes procurements.”

As at the time of filing this report, there was now news on when the Messrs Julius Berger should return to site. Neither has the government announced a new deadline for the completion of the project.

The multi-billion naira project is stucked- no thanks to the inability of the Federal Government to adequately fund the project.

After rewarding the project in 2013, the Jonathan administration pledged to release N50 billion. But instead, the government provided only a guarantee to the Infrastructure Bank to facilitate the release of N117 billion to Julius Berger and the RCC.

The two construction were unable to get up to N10 billion, a development that forced the firms to withdraw their gangs from the road.

The bank, it was learnt, was trying to limit its risk exposure because the BHSL had approached the court to challenge the termination of its contract.

The case was determined in favour of the government in a Federal High Court on April 25, 2016.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Fred Kuti, said a clearer picture of the details may not come until next month.

Kuti said: “How these things works is that when the Federal Executive Council (FEC) comes up with its approvals, it takes about two weeks for the council to pass extracts of such approvals to the ministry and it is only when we get the extracts that we can formally write Messrs Julius Berger, the contractor.”

For now, the only information at its disposal, the controller added, “is that additional N64.1 billion has been approved by the government in addition to the N70 billion currently being expended.”

If the ministry will get the extract by mid-May, mobilising Julius Berger and returning to site may not be earlier than June.

A transport expert, Dr. George Banjo, said the real issue is not when the project would resume, Nigerians are anxious to know when it would be delivered.

The reason for this is not far-fetched. The road in its present state has become the nation’s most prominent death trap, claiming lives on a daily basis.

Saluting the government for the new design going on the road, George, a former World Bank Consultant on Transportation, said the road’s upgrading is long overdue as the road used to be a rural motorway.

He said: “With the heavy human activities along the corridor, especially the first segment, coupled with the vehicular pressure on the road, the need to upgrade the road into an urban motorway becomes imperative, because it is in response to the growing needs of the people.”

George urged the government to put its overall plan on the road to the public domain.

“Until such is done, it would be difficult to fault the government on this new initiative as it simply showed that it is not immune to those needs that might make it return to the project sooner, if it had delivered it because of the need to prevent lives of other road users as well as ensure the longevity of the road. For now, it is a step in the right direction,” George had said.

Echoing him, another transport planning expert, Dr. Joseph Shojobi, called for the implementation of a new template to manage the nation’s basic commonwealth.

According to him, a fundamental reform such as the return of all roads to the state governments must be undertaken, to take the shine away from the regular ritual of announcing hefty sums for the construction and rehabilitation of roads.

He said: “This should be followed with the re-classification of the roads and the growth of dedicated funds by the reintroduction of the tolling regime to ensure regular maintenance of the roads.

“We must make tolling part of our culture. It must be a consistent policy, if we are to ensure we have motorable road all year round.

“Let the government come up with an agency or corporation to handle our roads. This agency must statutorily collect at least two percent of the cost of construction of any new road as well as fuel tax and tolls.

“Everywhere in the world, the usage of the road is not free. We must get the tolling regime back and also get to introduce fuel consumption tax. Consumers must be able to pay between one or two percent tax on our daily fuel consumption. That is what obtains in the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (U.S.), Germany and other partsof Europe.

“The beauty of such a fund is that the country would not have to wait for yearly allocations to fix any road because the special agency so created to warehouse the money would have enough to maintain all road networks and construct new ones across all the six geopolitical zones of the country.

“When the taxpayers see that the money is being judiciously deployed, they would be willing to pay.”

Shojobi, who recalled that the country was able to pay for the construction of the road in the 60s without recourse to the World Bank, said the country would not have gotten into the cesspool, if the government had cultivated the culture of tolling of its highways.

To prevent the cankerworm of corruption from sinking its fangs into the agency, Shojobi called for the decentralisation of its operations and the use of professionals and consultants.

Shojobi said: “If the same template used by the military government during the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), is introduced, we would be able to sanitise the transportation ecosystem and ensure that money is available to fund the repair of construction of new roads across the country.”

He said the new template would provide a new gust of wind into a sector that is exemplified by dilapidated infrastructure.

The highway, according to Shojobi, “is a commonwealth for which a neutral agency is the needed catalyst to ensuring the proliferation of roads that would be mutually enjoyed by all as it would be able to ensure that everything is put in place to ensure that it is safe and secured for all classes of users.”

Herdsmen Killings: Protests, Prayers In Benue, Ibadan, Lagos

It was a day of prayers and protests yesterday over the endless killings of innocent Nigerians in some parts of the country by rampaging herdsmen.

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President, Supo Ayokunle, called for the protests as a wake-up call to the Federal Government that the bloodletting must stop.

However, there were no protests in the Southeast. The protests in Lagos, Ibadan, Ado-Ekiti, Akure, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Makurdi, among others, were largely restricted to the Baptist Church. Rev Ayokunle is of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

According to The Nation, Pentecostal churches, which are mostly affiliated to the Pentocostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), did not join the protest.

In Kano, the state chapter of CAN chose prayers instead of a protest.

It declared that the killings were the handiwork of mercenaries and urged the Federal Government to treat the killers as terrorists.

State CAN Chairman Rev. Adeolu Samuel Adeyemo said the prayer was to seek divine intervention to end the killings of innocent Nigerians “after due consultation”

He said: “The alleged herdsmen killers are mercenaries. We demand the Federal Government to declare and treat them as terrorists.

“The military should confront them as thus to stop the dastardly act of theirs and, as well, demand that Federal Government should look out for their sponsors and bring them to justice.”

The association praised Governor Umar Ganduje and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, for the peace among residents.

Rev. Adeyemo said CAN in Kano decided not to protest the killings so as not to give hoodlums the opportunity to hijack it, adding that through prayers, “God in His infinite mercy will intervene and restore peace in those trouble areas”.

“We demand the need to go the extra mile to free the Chibok girls, Leah Sharibu and all those abducted by the terrorists irrespective of tribe and religion,” he said.

Christian leaders in Kano gathered at Believers Baptist Church, 6, Zungeru Road where they prayed to God to save Nigerians from killers.

Rev. Ayokunle led the protest in Ibadan where church members converged on the Oritamefa Baptist Church in the Oyo State capital. The protest was restricted to the church premises.

Youth groups and women estimated to be about 2,000, walked round the church premises and vicinity. They called on the government to stem the killings.

The service in the church was also to offer thanksgiving for the success of the just- concluded Annual Baptist Convention, which held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Inscriptions on some of the placards read, “CAN says No to Violent Killings”; “FG, stop this wicked act”; “CAN says No to Religious Killings”; “FG, release Leah Sharibu from Captivity”; “Enough of Bloodshed in Nigeria, CAN rejects FGN poor handling of insecurity”; “Human beings are more valuable than cattle, protect human beings”; “FG be sensitive to families that are mourning”; “No more excuses for mass murder”; and “Enough of unlawful killings in the country”, among others.

There was also a protest at the Gospel Faith Mission International International (GOFAMINT) Church, Akanran Road in the Ona Ara Local Government Area.

The protesters sang and condemned the killings.

In Lagos, protests were held at the Shepherded Hill Baptist Church, Obanikoro where congregants protested at the Obanikoro Bus Stop, chanting “no more bloodshed”. They carried placards, with inscriptions such as, “CAN rejects poor handling of insecurity”, “Arrest and prosecute wicked killers in Nigeria”, “Federal Government of Nigeria, take full responsibility for security in Nigeria”, “Enough of bloodshed in Nigeria” and “Federal Government ensure immediate release of Leah Sharibu from captivity”.

Senior Pastor Israel Kristilere said the protest was to make Nigerians realise that the church was no longer find the killings palatable.

“We want the whole world to know that we are against bloodshed in this country and we are not part of them.”

He said the government must stand up and ensure security of Nigerians.

“Government must be responsive and responsible. It is their responsibility to ensure the security of lives and properties and whatever it takes to do this can never be too much. If there is need for more gadgets, they should get it,” Kristilere said.

He noted that many of those troubling the country were no ghosts, adding that if the government spends billions of dollars to tackle insecurity, it is not too much.

“We are also demanding the release of Leah Sharibu from the custody of Boko Haram,” he said.

Kristilere urged the government to be serious with insecurity.

He prayed for the exposure of all those sponsoring bloodshed, adding that God will destroy all the plans of the wicked ones.

In Ekiti, the protesters took to the streets from about 2.00 pm. Policemen and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) members watching over them.

This was aside the protest in the early hours by various individual churches, such as Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) and the Baptist Church among others.

Led by the CAN Chairman Rev. Joshua Orikogbe, the protesting Christians marched from the CAN House at Ori Apata on Adebayo Road in Ado-Ekiti to the Adekunle Fajuyi Memorial Park. They ended the protest at the Government House where they sent a letter to President Buhari through Governor Ayo Fayose.

The CAN chairman said: “We are for peace in Nigeria but it is like we are being pushed to the wall by these wanton killings of Christians and clerics.

“To us in Ekiti CAN, the only way to sustain peace is for the government of the day at the federal level to abandon politics for sometime and focus the needed attention on security and safety of lives,” he said.

Fayose, whose Special Adviser on Religious Matters, Pastor Seyi Olusola, received the protesters, praised them for being peaceful.

The Ekiti State Baptist Conference President Rev. Yinka Aribasoye has called on the Federal Government to stop the killings.

He called for the resignation of the Service Chiefs if they could not guarantee the security of ordinary Nigerians.

The presiding pastor of the First Baptist Church, Okeyinmi, Ado-Ekiti, Reverend Kayode Ayinde, enjoined Christians to pray for Shaibu’s safe return.

Christian faithful in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, wore black and white dresses as a mark of mourning for the murdered Catholic priests and parishioners of St Ignatius Church, Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area.

Two Catholic priests Rev. Father Joseph Gor and Rev. Father Felix Tyolaha, as well as 16 worshippers were killed at mass on April 24.

A correspondent of NAN, who went round some churches in Makurdi, reports that most worshippers, regardless of denomination, wore black and white dresses.

NAN also reports that the worshippers held peaceful protests within their churches to denounce “the acts of barbarism” on innocent citizens.

They held placards with inscriptions such as “Enough of the killings”, “We want peace in our state”, “No more bloodshed”, “Lord, what have we done to deserve this?’’ among others.

At the NKST church in Iyortyer, Makurdi, the worshippers carried placards, marching peacefully within the premises.

Pastor Frederick Ikyaan of NKST Church at High Level area of the metropolis said the Christian community was mourning

“We are saddened by these killings and we want the world to know our displeasure over these acts,’’ he said.

Ikyaan said that the dress code was reminiscent of the tradition of the church in wearing sack clothes when faced with such calamities.

“In the olden days, Christians wore sack clothes when confronted with calamities of monstrous nature but since we no longer have such clothes, we wear black and white to show our grief and anguish.

“Our concern is to express our displeasure and feelings to the immediate society, our leaders in Nigeria and President Buhari, without mincing words that we are offended by the ongoing killings in the state and the country,’’ he said.

He said that with the killing of the priests and worshippers, it was very clear that the invaders were not after the green vegetation but the soul of the state.

The cleric said that the killing of the priests had further deepened their faith, adding that no amount of intimidation would stop them from practicing their faith.

He said that the priests and faithful killed had become martyrs of the herdsmen invasion in Benue, adding that they were the seeds sown by the church.

Security operatives were patrolling the state capital while the church services were ongoing.

Members of the First Baptist Church in Rivers State staged a peaceful protest within the church’s headquarters.

A church leader, who declined to be named, said: “It is unfortunate that President Muhammadu Buhari has not said much since the advent of the herdsmen killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna, parts of the Northeast and recently Benue State.

“We are demanding the immediate release of Leah. They want to turn this into a religious war. If the Federal Government does not act now and end this madness, Christians will rise up and defend themselves and Nigeria will be worse than Afghanistan, Mali and Rwanda,” he said.

See Ways You Will Live Better When God Is Truly With You

What do you consider your reward in life? A fulfilling career, satisfying relationships, or being able to find joy in the simple things in life? What about success, notoriety, or financial security?

The problem with those “rewards” is that we can often feel we are missing the mark when our expectations aren’t met. But when you and I adopt a mindset like some of the great men of faith in the Scriptures, we can funnel every circumstance in life, every disappointment, and even every failure, through the grid of God being our portion and reward. How?

Consider Abraham, who waited years for God to deliver upon a promise to give him a son. Remember David the shepherd boy, psalmist, and giant killer who became Israel’s greatest king, but was also a fugitive for many years of his life. And consider Paul, who was shipwrecked, imprisoned, and beaten and left for dead several times. They all considered God as their portion – or reward in life – regardless of their circumstances. Eventually they got better rewards.

What if you and I were to adopt the motto: “The Lord is my portion?” Here are ways your life will become better when you put God first – not money, success or any other person or thing – as your ultimate prize and reward.

1. You don’t worry about your provision.
In this uncertain economy which can change from day to day, it’s natural to worry if we can make financial ends meet, pay off our debts, and retire one day. But David’s assurance that God was his portion kept him from stressing about the future or even hoping for an earthly inheritance.

In Psalm 16:5-6, David sang: “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” (NASB)

Can you say that God makes your lot “secure” and provides all that you need (Philippians 4:13), and has ensured for you a delightful inheritance as a child of God? When God is your portion, that can be your song, too.

2. You have real hope for a better future.
When circumstances weigh heavy on you, when you’re in a difficult season of life, when hope is simply hard to find, what do you do? Sometimes it can be discouraging to even think about getting out of bed and facing another day, let alone think about the far-off future.

Yet, Jeremiah – who is known as “The Weeping Prophet” because of how burdensome his calling was – maintained his hope in God’s faithfulness and proclaimed that the Lord’s “compassions never fail. They are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Jeremiah proclaimed: “‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:24-26).

Can you find hope in the words of the Weeping Prophet who could, despite his lot in life, still say “The Lord is good” and “The Lord is my portion”? God knows what your tomorrow holds and He promises it is good.

3. You are directed and comforted by God’s Word.
Life can be confusing. We have many opportunities, but not all are from God. How do we know which door to walk through? How do we know when to say “no”? The Psalmist relied on God as his portion and reward and knew that as he obeyed God’s Word he would be given clear direction and he would experience no regrets.

In Psalm 119, the psalmist said: “My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life… I remember, Lord, your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them. Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. In the night, Lord, I remember your name, that I may keep your law. This has been my practice: I obey your precepts. You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words” (verses 50, 52, 54-57).

When you see God as your portion, you treasure the Word of God and let it guide you, comfort you, and assure you that you are in His will.

4. You feel safe in His care.
Fear, worry, and constantly asking “what if?” can be debilitating. Yet, when God is our portion, we know to Whom we belong and in Whose hands we are being held, and that brings a confidence to our life and a closeness to our Lord.

In Psalm 145, as David was hiding in a cave because King Saul was seeking to kill him, he sang about his confidence in the Lord as his portion, his refuge, his protection: “I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me. Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life. I cry to you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living’” (verses 1-5).

Even when it seems like everyone in the world is against you, when God is your portion, you can go through life feeling safe, secure, and ever protected.

5. You are content with your life.
When the Lord is your portion, you are content and you know what it means to have enough. Instead of praying for more money, a bigger house, a better job, and a happier or more fulfilling life, you realize you have been abundantly blessed.

The writer of Proverbs 30:7-9 understood God as His portion, when he said: “Two things I asked of You, Do not refuse me before I die: Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, That I not be full and deny You and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or that I not be in want and steal, And profane the name of my God.” (NASB).

Are you content with what God has given you, realizing He sees what is best for you and knows what you can handle and what you can’t? If you see God as your portion, you will be.

6. You focus on your blessings, not your burdens.
When the Lord is your portion, you not only see the glass as half full (as opposed to half empty), you see it as overflowing.

In Psalm 16:6, David said, “the lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; surely my inheritance is delightful.” Notice how David didn’t say, “I’m barely getting by” or, “Some days are great, but some really stink.”

That’s because David was king of Israel, you might be thinking. Of course he was full of praise, he actually DID have a delightful inheritance! Yet, Psalm 16 opens with David asking God to keep him safe. That indicates he might have written that song when was running for his life from King Saul. When complaint could’ve been on his tongue, he was singing praises instead that God was his “refuge.” (verse 1). David recognized that God was his portion and that was the blessing upon which he focused.

7. You live joyfully with your spouse.
To recognize God as your portion means you are satisfied with what He has given you. Not only satisfied, but joyful in it, because you recognize His portion as His gift to you.

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, also indulged himself with far more than he needed. Thus, at the end of his life he clearly recognized emptiness and worthless pursuits. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Certainly, he would recognize emptiness when it came to marriage, too.

At the end of his life, Solomon wrote: “Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 9:9). Solomon’s words could be that of a bitter reflection. What if he had lived joyfully with the one spouse God had given Him?

There is emptiness in seeking more than our portion, and more than God has given us – especially when it comes to marriage. Are you satisfied with the husband or wife that you truly believed at one time God had given you? Or would you be happier with someone else? When God is your portion and you’re satisfied with the portion He’s given you, you will find joy in your spouse and see him or her as a reward from God.

8. You are able to press on.
During difficult seasons of life we can find ourselves feeling unable to persevere. The task looks too daunting. The absence of someone we love looks too lonely. The diagnosis looks too fearful. The thought of going on seems unbearable.

Yet Asaph saw God as the strength of his heart and his portion… not just in this life but in the life to come.

Asaph clearly knew his treasure and His reason for being, when he expressed: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:25-26).

Can you recite that quote daily until you really believe that God is your portion?

9. You aren’t afraid to die.
The unknown can be terrifying. But Jesus comforted us by telling us what to anticipate.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:1-3).

We tend to be fearful of what will happen to those we leave behind, what might happen to us after we die, or the overall fear of missing out because of a life cut short. Yet, Paul said,“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). There was a man who clearly knew His portion… and His reason for living – and dying.

When Christ is your portion, death is the route to bringing your great reward to fullness.

When you and I live like God is our inheritance, our share, and our reward, we also understand that nothing else compares to Him. We’ve won the prize for eternal life.

Hardship Forced Us To Sell Our Baby – Couple

A 35-year-old man identified as Nkemakolam Ugorji, and his wife, Happiness, have confessed that economic hardship made them to sell their two-day-old baby girl.

Ugorji and Happiness said they had been married for seven years and already had four, adding that they could not care for the fifth baby and therefore decided to give away the baby to foster parents.

Happiness said, “My husband and I decided to sell our baby because of hardship. We have four children and my husband is not working. When I was pregnant, there was no money for me to go for antenatal and feeding was even a problem for us. That was why we decided to sell our baby.”

She added that it was the nurse who delivered her of the baby that connected them to the lady who helped them to sell the baby for the sum of N300,000.

On his own, Ugorji, who claimed to be an orphan, said since he relocated from Port Harcourt to his village, he had been jobless.

He added that he agreed with his wife to sell his baby to raise money for his family.

He said, “I was riding a tricycle on hire/purchase in Port Harcourt, but when I could not meet up with the payment, the owner collected it from me. So, we relocated to my village in Isiala Ngwa and since then, I have not got any other job and I have nobody to help us because I am an orphan.

“It was my village people who informed the police that I sold my baby because I couldn’t give them a proper account of my baby when they discovered that my wife was not pregnant again.”

The Punch reports that their accomplice in the crime identified as Nma said the couple had approached her to help them adopt the baby to a foster parent who could take care of the baby.

Nma said she invited one pastor who had lived with his wife for 28 years without any child to adopt the baby and the pastor adopted the baby for N300, 000.

Known for child trafficking in the state, Nma denied benefitting anything from the money given to the couple, adding that the pastor gave the money to Ugorji and his wife.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, has confirmed the incident.

He warned anybody who wanted to adopt children in the state to follow due process and avoid going through illegal means.

The CP added that investigation aimed at fishing out the buyers of the baby was ongoing.

He urged members of the public to always report any suspected movement in their area to the police, pointing out that policing is everyone’s business in the state.

Herdsmen With Guns Captured By Soldiers

The Commandant of 72 Battalion in Makurdi, Benue State, Lt.-Col. Suleiman Mohammed, on Saturday, paraded three herdsmen captured by troops in the state.

The herdsmen were said to have been captured by soldiers on patrol last Thursday while planning another deadly attack on the Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Mohammed said the herdsmen had engaged the troops in a fierce battle before three of them were captured. One of them was said to have been wounded.

The herdsmen were identified as Abubakar Umaru, Yusuf Yaro and Adam Likita.

Speaking on the whereabouts of the Boko Haram kingpin, Aminu Yaminu, alias Tashaku, arrested on Friday, the commandant said the suspect was in military custody, adding that investigation was ongoing.

He said, “The three (members of) militia paraded were arrested in the Guma area, where they were planning another attack.

“Immediately they sighted the troops, they engaged them in gunfire, but the troops were able to arrest these suspects.”

Paraded along with the herdsmen were AK-47 rifles, charms, handsets and ammunition.

Two of the suspects, Umaru and Yusuf, told journalists that their meeting point was near a river under a mango tree in the Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

They denied any involvement in the killings in Benue State, claiming that their colleagues, who ran away when they sighted soldiers, handed them guns.

The Punch, however, reliably gathered from one of the troops that engaged the herdsmen in the bush that Umaru, the injured herdsman, who claimed to be 20 years old, was shot several times.

Female Cultists Stabs Her Classmate In The Eye

A suspected female cult member, identified only as Josephine, has stabbed Miss Lillian Friday, her classmate, in the right eye for refusing to join a cult group.

The suspect and the victim are both SSS 1 pupils of Community Secondary School, Otuoke, in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It was learnt that the incident happened in the country home of former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday.

The suspect (Josephine) was said to have been mounting pressure on Lillian to join a cult group which she persistently rejected.

The victim’s uncle, Mr. Benson Agiobu, said his niece said Josephine and her gang insisted she must join their group or they would teach her a bitter lesson she wouldn’t forget.

Agiobu said Lillian met Josephine on the way and she insisted that she must join their group.

He stated, “It was when Lillian refused again that Josephine alerted other members of group who were with her at the time. They held Lillian down while she was stabbed in the right eye with a sharp object by Josephine and they fled.’’

He said Josephine is a native of Ayakoro and Otuokpoti communities in the Ogbia council area, while his niece (the victim) is a native of Emeyal 1, in the same LGA.

Punch gathered that the victim is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the damage done to Lillian’s right eye was such that she might need to undergo a surgery.

Speaking on the development, a human rights group on anti-cult activities in primary and secondary schools, Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network, has condemned the incident.

The Convener, PACON, Aluzu Augustine, who said his group had since March 11, 2018 embarked on a campaign against cultism and drug abuse in Bayelsa, described the act as “barbaric and demonic.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, said he had yet been properly briefed on the incident.

It will be recalled that four armed teenagers suspected to be members of a cult group in March attacked Community Secondary School in the state.

The invasion of the school took place after the state government through the ministry of education expelled seven pupils over their alleged membership of a cult group.

Buhari Should Be Ready For Probe, I Can Be President Without Going To America – Atiku

President Muhammadu Buhari should be ready for a serious probe on arms purchase by his government if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wins next year’s presidential election.

Atiku personally served notice of the probe yesterday while featuring on BBC Hausa Service.

Although the former vice president hailed the Buhari administration for checking the security challenge in the Northeast, he expressed disappointment that the insurgency has taken this long.

He wondered why the military has been unable to defeat the terror sect, Boko Haram, after much expenditure on arms.

He also shed light on his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I want to be the president of Nigeria because I would be able to do things I could not do as vice president,” Atiku said.

“I will investigate how the government was unable to defeat Boko Haram for years. I will also investigate the procurement of arms bought by this administration.

“Eight years after, Nigerian government is still fighting Boko Haram whose members are not professionally trained.”

Atiku spoke against the background of the ongoing spat between the Presidency and the National Assembly over Buhari’s payment of $496million for the purchase of 12 Tucano military aircraft from the United States of America before seeking the consent of the National Assembly.

Both chambers of the National Assembly are up in arms against Buhari on the matter, saying his action breached Sections 80 (1-4) of the 1999 Constitution.

On anti-corruption figh, Atiku said his approach would be different from Buhari’s who, according to him, is protecting some of the people that should be prosecuted.

His words: “there are people who are untouchable, they are doing things that are not in order but they are being shielded by the government.

“If elected Nigeria’s president, my administration will not spare anybody. When I was in power, none of my relatives or friends was found wanting.”

He recalled the role he played in the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“I was the person that sourced for the takeoff funds for the EFCC,” he said.

Asked about his purported ban by the US government from visiting the country, Atiku said: “I requested for visa, they said it is under administrative process.

“I’m not desperate to travel to America. I don’t have any investment there. The house I bought for my wife years back, she sold the house.

“I don’t have anything to do in America. It’s my tradition, I buy houses for my wives but for me, I don’t need it.”

He said the ‘ban’ would not in any way affect his ambition to rule Nigeria.

“It’s not by going to America that qualifies one to be a president; it’s not in our Constitution,” he argued.

He said youths would be favoured by him if he becomes president as 40 per cent of his ministers will be young Nigerians.

On why he dumped the APC, Atiku said: “The APC started on a wrong footing after President Buhari assumed office.

“After 2015 general election, I met the president. I told him the activities of the party had been crippled and there was a need for restructure.

“Also, the way the government was being run; I made my suggestions but it seemed they were deemed not important to them.

“I said to him, if things continue like this, I will quit but Buhari ignored it.”

Atiku resigned from the APC last November to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on which platform he became vice president in 1999.

Be Prepared To Remove Buhari In 2019 Even If You Face Threat – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, told members of the third force, Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), that the present administration would pose a threat to their ambition to salvage Nigeria.

He urged members of the coalition to ready for the enormous work ahead.

Obasanjo spoke in Ibadan while addressing the Oyo State chapter of the CNM.

At the meeting were a former Governor of Osun State, who is also the national coordinator of the movement, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja; two former secretaries to the Oyo State Government, Olayiwola Olakojo and Ayodele Adigun; as well as Mr. Oyewole Fasawe.

Obasanjo said, “Our bosses are ready to spearhead this assignment. When those who insist that if they do it well or not, they must still be in charge of the affairs of this country and we say they cannot be there, they will wage war, they will do so with every weapon to fight. Everybody must be prepared.

“It is not easy to remove fruits from the palm kernel tree but if you think it will be easy to deliver Nigeria, you’re deceiving yourselves. God that did it yesterday will do it today again. We should not be discouraged. We have a lot of work to do.”

He noted that a similar scenario happened in the past when all the five political parties in the country adopted one person as their sole candidate for presidency.

Obasanjo said, “Our God was laughing then, now he is also laughing. When the time was up then, he confirmed that He is God. He is omnipotent, omnipresent and eternal who can do all things and who can make all things possible. But if we are leaving things to God, we have to play our own part.”

Nigerian Women Charged To Be Change Agents

Women have been urged to be catalysts of change in their families, careers and businesses for the development of the nation.

The Deputy Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Nike Adeyemi, gave the charge at the 2018 Women of Destiny Conference with the theme ‘free indeed’, which ended at the weekend.

Adeyemi, who is convener of the annual event, said every woman was created with the unique power to provide outstanding solutions to challenges around them.

She tasked women, being uniquely created and engineered, to rise above every form of discouragement and strive to make a difference in the society beginning from their homes.

According to her, the conference was designed to bring women from different backgrounds to sentisise them on their unique roles not just at the home front but also in nation building.

“The theme of this year’s conference which is ‘Free Indeed’ is a wakeup call for all women.

“Women as majority must be reckoned with. They need to be participants in decision-making positions,” Adeyemi stated.

The Nation reports that she encouraged women to speak out against the ills of the nation starting from the families.

“We can get the attention of those in power to do the right things. They can lead change in the community beginning from their home fronts,” She added.

Speaking at the conference, Rev Laurie Whetstone- Idahosa, wife of Bishop Feb Idahosa of the Church of God Mission International, called on women in the country to imbibe Christian virtues and devote their lives to the service of humanity.

“My message to everyone is that we need to touch humanity. The world is what we are meant to touch and if we imbibe all of Christian virtues, – being compassionate, being less-selfish, wanting to reach out to one another so that nobody will lack anything,” she said.

Other speakers at the conference were Pastor Seun Uwubamen; Rev Funke Felix- Adejumo; Glowreeyah Braimoh and Funmi Oloyede amongst others.

Marriage Will Cost You (Not Money)

I’m not even talking about the cost of the wedding. That’s nothing in comparison to the emotional costs that come with becoming one. The truth is, you lose a part of yourself within the glory of marriage. You exchange a little bit of who you are for a little bit of who they are. You learn to give and take, and then you learn to let go of the things that don’t really matter.

And in the end, you realize that what you’ve given is far, far less than what you’ve ultimately received. Love is good like that.

At some point, you will be disappointed.
I know, this one was a hard reality. I’m not sure why I didn’t really believe it would happen. I am fully aware of my and my husband’s humanity. But for some reason this truth doesn’t really hit home… until it actually hits home. My husband and I have loved each other deeply, but we’ve also hurt each other deeply. When you allow someone to bury their heart in yours, there’s no doubt that one day you will feel an ache. Whether in the form of an unkind word, a thoughtless action, or a selfish moment, marriage will hurt. But by God’s grace, each wound paves the way for grace, forgiveness, and restoration. Each wound is a reminder of our need to love better and to love deeper.

Marriage gives you a glimpse of so much more.
There’s a reason that God uses the analogy of marriage to describe His love for His church – because no relationship will ever compare to the intimacy that is exchanged within this earthly connection.

Not only is God’s love for us magnified through the lens of a healthy marriage, but He uses this marriage to shape us, refine us, and put us through the fire–making us more and more like Him along the way. Reflecting Jesus is the greatest honor that we can partake in when it comes to marriage, but more so, it’s the one and only thing that will keep our marriage alive.

While it’s important to acknowledge that there are many routes to holiness, we have to realize that marriage is definitely one of those routes. I am a different person because of this sacred relationship, and I know that God’s not finished with me yet. I’m so thankful for the blessing of marriage, and look forward to what lies ahead.

I survived bre*st cancer, defied diagnosis that I might be childless – Nigerian Lady

A Nigerian woman, Ifeyinwa Anigala, has shared the story of how she overcame breast cancer and went on to have a baby, despite the medical report saying she would never be able to conceive.

Ifeyinwa, who used the anniversary of her birthday to share her survival story on social media, revealed the trials of fighting cancer and how she won…

‘My name is IFEYINWA..
Mama Adawenah….
I am happy that I am a year older today.
My name carries a lot of weight. And do you want to know why? Please read on….

My life is a story & I’m ready to tell it to the world…… I’m not telling my story to impress anyone or for anyone to have a kind of sympathy for me….. Not at all. My story is to give GOD all the Glory and to encouraged those suffering and dying in silent,
come out let’s fight together, I won the battle, you too can win.

PART ONE
Dec… 2012 is a month I will never ever forget. I may have been compelled to face danger which I doubt, but I defeated the danger itself.
That fateful day in December, as I was taking my shower in the morning to set out for my business, I noticed something big in between my right bre*st & my armpit. I didn’t understand what it was. In fact, it was a big lump & how the lump appeared suddenly, I didn’t know.
I agitated a little. I was a bit scared that I had to call my friend ‘Chinyere Ogu’ who asked me to act fast immediately.

I rushed to our family doctor who admitted me immediately. He sent me for mammogram & the result showed that the lump was benign and I was very happy that it wasn’t cancerous. He went further and carried a surgery on me to remove the lump.
It was later that I realized that he never had much experience on this case. I say so because of what transpired later. Besides, he gave me an unimaginable big cut on my bre*st.
What would I have done either because I equally had no experience? I’m not a medical doctor nor a medical student. That period was when I knew one should beware of false knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance.
The Doctor admitted me in his clinic for five days after the lump removal before I was finally discharged. I was strong, happy & good to go. Since the mammogram showed I was free, I was even happier. But the Doctor told me that he was sending the specimen removed from my bre*st to the lab to be diagnosed which was normal.
My Doctor never contacted me afterwards. I ignorantly relaxed thinking I was in safe hands as I was not summoned by him again.
Who would be in my shoes and wouldn’t do the same? When you panic about anything & you are not called back for any negative report…….you’ll definitely pray it remains that way. That means, nothing was wrong with you. But, I never knew that my doctor actually sent the specimen to the lab but he never went back to pick up the result of the biopsy. So so pathetic.
April, 2013, the month I was to be celebrating my birthday, I noticed another lump in my bre*st. This time, it was a bigger lump. I panicked. I called back my doctor & that was when he remembered that he had not collected the result of the specimen he sent to the lab four months ago. What a shame! So unprofessional!
Few days later when he picked up my result, he sent for me. When I got to his clinic, he broke the news to me.
I was informed that; “I, Ify, was diagnosed of bre*st cancer”.
Ooh nooo. This news sounded like a death sentence to me. In fact, it is a bit difficult right now for me to put into words exactly what I went through emotionally the very moment the doctor announced my result. The news that you’ve got cancer kills faster than the disease itself.
He took me to another private hospital for the new doctor to examine the new lump I dictated (detected) in my bre*st. The new doctor saw the initial result of the mammogram which showed benign & the biopsy which showed malignant & he told me it was complicated. He arranged for the removal of the second lump immediately to clear his doubts. After the removal of the second lump by the second doctor, I was discharged that same day.
Exactly two weeks later, I was summoned to come for the result of the second biopsy. And I was equally told it was cancerous.
I was devastated. I wept like I’ve never wept before.
It didn’t end there. In less than two weeks after the second surgery, another huge lump surfaced again (the third lump)
I was then referred to University Of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where I would have been directed initially for proper management. I was then told by Doctors in UPTH that I would undergo a major surgery (mastectomy). That means the removal of my entire right bre*st……..
After being told this; two thoughts came to me as I cried out loud over the report… ….”What am I going to look like without one bre*st? Am I going to be less a woman?”
At first, that word mastectomy scared me. Later I had to tell myself the bitter truth; “Ify, this was the time for you to fight”. And as I fought each day after my mastectomy, during my chemotherapy, radiotherapy, I just knew that cancer was losing and I was winning.
Friends, never stop believing in HOPE because MIRACLES happen everyday….. You will realise that I am a miraculous child by the time you know all my stories. And don’t mind that I have one bre*st removed which my sweetheart, my better half isn’t even complaining; but …..I, IFY IS A CANCER WARRIOR.
I appreciate God for I am wonderfully & specially made. God assigned me with that mountain, for me to tell others that any strong mountain can truly be moved….I came to realise that it is not just one person that gets this cancer the moment it is announced to the victim. Your whole family, your very close relations, friends, your loved ones are tortured directly or indirectly. They suffer with you emotionally, spiritually, physically, although you that is the victim suffer the most……One is not exposed to danger by her own making or wish. But there is even great danger if people you cherish don’t fight with you & thank God that people I cherish have my back.
But when it is your own cross, you will have to say how you will carry your Cross to suit you & everyone around you.
Cancer didn’t bring me down one bit, it brought me up to be strong & brave & I never knew I could be this brave, this open & this happier until now.
God can never give me anything I cannot handle. My faith became so strong.
I was even told that I would never conceive considering all the medications & treatment I went through during my radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. But friends, here I am with my Danielle, my miracle baby, a child that came and turned my situation around for good. She made me defeat cancer.
I laugh at cancer today because I never gave in & I never gave up. My faith dared me to go beyond where the eyes can reach. My eyes reached God immediately & HE performed a miracle on me, and I was made whole again. I defeated cancer. That will be a story for another day.
Meanwhile, the conception of this my miracle baby Daniella rearranged every defect in my system/organs. God sent this child to me. Thank God HE used this baby to set me free. Medical science was proven wrong. Humans were proved wrong. The only report I stand to believe is God’s report & we can move mountains with our faith.
You can imagine!
Due to the chemotherapy & radiotherapy which affected my men-strual circle. Which doctors also told me that I might not be able to conceive again. I never knew I was pregnant until I was almost five months gone…..Unbelievable!
Friends, this is just Part One of my story. I’ll continue with Part Two next time.
Hey cancer, you chose the wrong victim. I’m not going to spare you this time around. I’m going to mess you up publicly for messing up with the wrong person.

Cheers!
Meet you in Part 2.’

The Nation reports that the convention was earlier scheduled to hold in Abuja on 14th May and the shift in date may not be unconnected with the observations made by the governors of the party that the timetable for the party congresses and national convention was too tight.

Also affected in the shift in date is the party congress from the ward to the state level.

Abdullahi said in a short statement made available to newsmen in Abuja that ward congresses will now hold on the 5th of May, while local government and state congresses will now hold on the 12th and 19th May respectively.

Dino Melaye: Why I Didn’t Appear Before Senate – Police IG

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has explained why he was not physically present to honour the invitation of the Senate Chambers of the National Assembly over the Dino Melaye saga and other issues.

The IG explained that he was absent because he was on an official assignment in Bauchi State with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senate had summoned the IG to appear before it to answer questions on why Senator Dino Melaye was handcuffed by Policemen and the spate of killings and insecurity in various parts of the country.

The IG sent the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations, Joshak Habilla to represent him but the Senate rejected the representation.

The Police in a statement in Abuja on Friday while quoting the Constitution said the duties of the IG could be carried out by either a DIG or an AIG.

The statement by the Force Spokesman, ACP Jimoh Moshood reads: “The functions, duties and responsibilities of the Inspector General of Police as listed in Section 215 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can also be carried out as mentioned in section 312 (1) of the Police Act and Regulation by a senior officer of the Force of the Rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police and Assistant Inspector General of Police who if permitted by the Inspector General of Police to act on his behalf or represent him in official capacity at any function, event or programme within and outside Nigeria can do so in consonant with the provisions of the Police Act and Regulation.

“It is on the basis of the above that while the Inspector General of Police is on an official assignment in Bauchi State that he delegated the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations to represent him and honour the invitation of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria in respect of the felonious offenses for which Sen. Dino Melaye was taken into Police custody, investigated and to be arraigned in the Federal High Court, Lokoja without further delay.”

The statement further reads: “Consequently, the general public are hereby implored to note that the Inspector General of Police acted rightly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Police Act and Regulation and other extant laws by delegating the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations to represent him at the Senate, National Assembly on 26th April, 2018 to present the Police report, actions and findings in a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Firearms and other sundry offenses indicting Senator Dino Melaye.”

On Melaye’s case, the Police urged the Senate not to trivialize the case against Melaye adding that the Senate should allow the rule of law to prevail.

“The Nigeria Police Force is a law abiding organization and holds the Senate and its leadership in high esteem, however the Force wishes to impress on the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria not to personalize or trivialize the criminal offenses (Criminal Conspiracy and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Firearms and other sundry offenses) indicting Sen.
