Woman Arraigned for Stabbing Husband to Death in Lagos

The police arraigned a 23-year-old woman, Folashade ldoko, before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State on Tuesday, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

Folashade was brought before the court on one count of murder.

It was reported that she stabbed her husband, Lawrence Idoko, at Aiyetoro, in the Ijanikin area of the state after an argument ensued between them on August 20, 2017.

According to Punch, Folashade had reportedly accused her 33-year-old late husband of engaging in extra-marital affairs, which led to the argument.

It was learnt that the couple had two kids, but their three-year relationship was fraught with violence.

Investigating police officer in charge of the case, Inspector Akpan Nseyo, told the court on Tuesday that he recovered, at the scene, a kitchen knife with which the suspect stabbed her husband.

“I also saw a towel soaked with blood on the floor. There were bloodstains from the inner room to the living room down to the entrance door,’’ he added.

The defendant, in her statement to the police, stated that she did not intend to harm the husband, but that they were both struggling for the knife when “it mistakenly fell and injured my husband.’’

The prosecutor, Sergeant W. Hafsat, told the court that the suspect was alleged to have inflicted grievous harm on the victim in the past, but he overlooked it with the hope that she would change.

She added that the alleged offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Folashade Idoko, on August 20, 2017, at about 3am, on Ganiyu Akanni Close, Aiyetoro, Ijanikin, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill your husband, one Lawrence Idoko, by stabbing him on his right thigh with a kitchen knife.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken by the court.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ayeri, ordered that she should be remanded in custody and adjourned the matter till September 28, 2017.
