He was arraigned on a count contrary to Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The prosecutor, ASP S. Imhonwa, told the magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, that Okpara, on many occasions, battered his wife, causing her bodily injury.
The prosecutor claimed that Okpara, for instance, assaulted Linda sometime in August last year, by flogging her with a stick at their Ikeja GRA residence.
The ex-Super Eagles star, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following a plea by his lawyer, Malaki Odo, the magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He maintained that his client was innocent, vowing that “We shall prove our case during trial.”
The magistrate adjourned till January next year for further hearing.
